Join Us Thursdays for Game Night

Darts, ping pong and good-natured ribbing over Fantasy Football team performance now elevate Thursday Happy Hour into something sporty.

From 4 to 7 p.m. each Thursday, we transform the Club Library into a game room. Member Ryan Turbeville is a fan of ping pong, or, more officially table tennis, a diversion that more than 16 million U.S. adults try at least once a year, according to The Sports and Fitness Industry Association.

Nearly 5 million play 13 or more times a year. Ryan likely has entered those ranks of people considered “core” participants.

“I am super competitive,” he says.

More than 16 million people a year toss darts at least once, and the number of core participants is more than 5 million annually, but ping pong has the edge. Ping Pong playing is on the rise, both in the U.S. and internationally, while dart throwing may be losing its edge, according to SFIA’s annual surveys.

As for Fantasy Football, we’re not going to look up the numbers because we know they are off the charts. The City Club alone has two leagues of 10 players each, and the owner of the high-scoring and low-scoring teams each week get a prize, adding to Game Night’s appeal.

The member with the top team gets something like a free appetizer. The humiliated owner of the lowest-scoring team wins something akin to a “certificate of losership.”

Membership Director Ashlee Polk, for example, bestowed upon Ryan a bandaid at one Game Night, “for his bruised ego.”

Get your game face on and join us Thursday nights. You can’t win if you don’t play, but watching is fine, too.
